About this project

Luís António Santos Melo was born on February 12, 2001, in a small village near the city of Fundão, called Aldeia Nova do Cabo. While a music student, he joined the Academia de Música e Dança do Fundão in the class of Professor David Machado, at the age of 10. During the time he attended, he carried out several local internships, highlighting his performance in the internship carried out by Scutvias, in 2016. In the same year, he entered the Professional School of Arts in Covilhã, in the class of Professor Bruno Silva.

Conducted several masterclasses with teachers: Nuno Silva, António Saiote, Nuno Pinto, Luís Gomes, Vítor Fernandes, Tiago Bento, Rodrigo Orviz Luís Carvalho, Manuel Jerónimo, John Cipolla, Radovan Cavallin, Jasper Grijpink, Eric Mandat, Robert Spring, João Ramos and Horácio Ferreira. He participated in several competitions, having been a semi-finalist in the international competition Saverio Mercadante, in Italy, he was awarded the second prize in the international competition Terras de la Salette, with the first and second prize in the Sons de Cabral competition in Belmonte, with a mention honorable in the “Clarmeet” competition in Porto, with the same distinction in the “Silverstein Contest”, with the third prize in chamber music at the FoleFest festival with the accordionist Flávia Castro and with the same distinction in the Young Musicians award, in the field of music chamber (medium level), with Epabi’s clarinet quartet. As a member of Epabi’s wind orchestra, won first prize, first place in the Filarmonia D’Ouro competition. He carried out several internships at EPABI, with conductors Tiago Oliveira and José Ignácio Petit Matias. I also highlight his participations in Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, under the direction of Maestro Martim Sousa Tavares, in Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and in Orquestra Municipal de Sintra – D. Fernando II.

He completed his degree at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, in Lisbon, in the class of Professor Nuno Silva, between September 2019 and July 2023. He is currently undertaking his master’s degree at KASK-Conservatorium in Gent, Belgium; in the class of Professor Eddy Vanoosthuyse.
