Henri Bok is a worldwide ambassador of the bass clarinet, the instrument to which he has devoted his life as a performer, teacher (Tilburg, San Sebastián and Düsseldorf), improviser, and composer. An initiator of new chamber music ensembles (including duo Hevans with saxophonist Eleri Ann Evans) and the author of New Techniques for the Bass Clarinet, Henri Bok was made a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion by King Willem Alexander in 2014. In 2018 he received his PhD at Leiden University with a thesis entitled ‘The deep-rooted microtonality of the bass clarinet’.
