The Belgian clarinetist and conductor Rik De Geyter is currently clarinettist/bass clarinettist of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway, ass.prof. clarinet and bassclarinet at NTNU Institutt for Musikk in Trondheim.
He is a former clarinettist of the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides, was a member of the EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra) and played with the Brussels Philharmonic, Trondheim Sinfonietta, Trondheim Soloists, Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Bergen Philharmonic, Alpaca Ensemble amongst others. He studied clarinet with Eddy Vanoosthuyse at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (Belgium) and bass clarinet with Marc Kerckhof at the Ghent conservatory. Between 2011 and 2018 was he assistant-teacher of Eddy Vanoosthuyse.
Together with his sister Grier De Geyter and pianist Nicolas Callot, he forms MELEAS, playing both modern and period instruments. They made the album Franz, Peter & Schubert in 2022.
In Trondheim, Rik formed the Quatuor Maliniak and they released their recording of Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du temps in 2023.

As a conductor, he works a lot with contemporary music. He has worked with Trondheim Sinfonietta/SiTron, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Norwegian Airforce Band,  Symphony orchestra of Institutt for Musikk in Trondheim (NTNU) and Musikkforeningen Nidarholm.
